Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, â€Å"Baseball is what we were, and football is what we have become†(â€Å"Brainy Quotes†). Baseball is out and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9-13 play baseball in the world today. There is no longer â€Å"Take me out to the ball game,† but let me watch the game on my TV. Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the Dallas Cowboys stadium is the largest NFL stadium seating a w hopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 (â€Å"ESPN†). These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game.
